Cobi's Calendar: Dog Events Across the Country 26 January 2004, Monday Cherokee County Humane Society: Doggie U Doggie U needs You! Volunteers needed to help shelter dogs become more adoptable The Cherokee County Humane Society is looking for volunteers to help with an innovative program to train shelter dogs so that they will be better candidates for adoption. Doggie U pairs shelter dogs with amateur volunteer trainers who provide them with basic training. This training focuses on basic obedience issues such as sit, stay, down, and come. It also provides an opportunity for the dogs to practice walking nicely on a leash. The CCHS is looking for volunteers to act as instructors for Doggie U. Volunteers will need to commit at least two Saturdays per month that they can work at the shelter for an hour or two to train dogs. No experience in dog training is required.
